HOW COULD WE PUT AN END TO THE BUSINESS OF UNETHICAL FASHION? ARE WE RESPONSIBLE FOR CHILD LABOUR?

Modern slavery, which consists of letting people - and unfortunately children - work in poor conditions, is a controversial topic nowadays.

On the one hand, it has to be said that children are exposed to sexual abuse or burns due to the fact that these companies don’t respect their human rights. Moreover, they usually hire children who are under 18 because their families are poor and need another salary to make a living.
On the other hand, I also have to say that these companies won’t stop hiring “slaves” because of us. They will continue doing so as long as we continue to demand their products. However, it’s not only our fault but also the governments’.

To sum up, this must be brought to an end in order that the children who are working in these miserable conditions can start a normal life and have an education.

It’s known that in Asia, South Africa and South America there are people working as if we were still in the 19th century. Also European citizens seem not to notice or pretend not to see it, but we have to be aware that these facts are against the human rights.

To put an end to unethical fashion, the European governments should stop introducing textile products which come from those sweatshops. Moreover, although it’s easy to buy these cheap items of clothing, the suffering of these people is worthless. Besides, maybe if the products were the same price but most part of the money was for the workers instead of the employers, it could help their living conditions. However, we are all responsible for child labour because if we didn’t buy their products, the owners of the factories would make so much profit.

To sum up, it’s very hard to abolish child labour all around the world, but we should fight against it. Furthermore, at least we should try to improve the working conditions of the people hired in sweatshops.

Nowadays, following fashion trends is very easy for those who are European, we only have to buy in shops like Zara where products are cheaper.

It’s all about the point of view. We want to buy low-cost products despite being made by children and women working in poor conditions in sweatshops to satisfy our needs. It’s our fault because we can choose the place where we buy things like food or clothes. The main problem is that people won’t stop buying these products if they aren’t aware of the problem. Moreover, child labour is a common issue in countries like Asia or Africa because they need to earn money to help their families. A good idea would be to punish companies which do not respect the human rights, we could also buy things in other shops in order to stop this issue.
In conclusion, I think that child labour should be punished and we should work together to put an end to it. In my opinion, child labour would come to an end if it happened in Europe.

Nowadays, we live in a world where we care a lot about what kind of clothes we wear and the things we buy. That’s why some of the famous business make children work for them so that we can buy cheaper products.

Nike seems to be the most famous business that takes part in modern slavery. It uses children in Africa in order to make their products. These children are working under poor conditions and they get paid less money than they actually deserve. Even so, they have to work to get something to eat. The problem is that is not only Nike who does this kind of things: Nestle is an example of that and not everybody knows about it.

In conclusion, we should do something about it because a child shouldn’t be working when he/she is young. Every child deserves a happy childhood and not to be enslaved to get something to eat.
