Workers and social networks. Opinion essay

Do employers have the right to dismiss a worker depending on what they post on social networks?

Nowadays, almost everyone's got a profile in some kind of social network and there have been cases of workers being fired because of some information given or something they have posted there, but, is it fair to be fired due to that?

First of all, employers should do that if workers give a bad image to the corporation because the corporation might be giving a tolerant and a non-racist image but meanwhile an employer keeps insulting black people and homosexual people on twitter or facebook and the corporation's image would be damaged. Another reason to fire workers because of something they've written on social networks is because they might give some information about the CEOs or the corporation, for example, some programmer gives information about a new update on a website or program and the employer thinks it's inappropiate.

However, a profile ona  social network is personal and nobody should be fired because of what is written on there because workers are free to post whatever they want on a social network since it's their own profile and the employer shouldn't use it as a way to fire workers for the same reason employers don't fire workers because of what workers do at home. Another reason of because this is unfair is that worker's private life is alien to their workplace and it shouldn't influence their workplaces.

To sum up, there are some good reasons to fire a worker because of what they post on social networks like giving a bad image to the corporation or giving information about it that CEOs wouldn't like people to know. However, workers have their right to post whatever they want on social networks because it's their own personal profile and also private life and work should be kept away to avoid possible problems with employers.

Children using Facebook

Children are able to use Facebook and other social networks nowadays, no matter their age. This fact could be a problem for them and their parents since the Internet is a dangerous place for people who don’t know how to use it properly.

Little children are used to uploading all kind of photos and information about themselves because they are not conscious of dangers on the Internet, so, in my opinion, parents shouldn’t allow little children (of the age of 10, more or less) to use the Internet in order that they can’t be Internet criminals’ (such as pedophiles, rapists or hackers) victims. In case that parents let their children use the Internet, I think they should watch over what they do all the time so as to protect them.

To sum up, parents shouldn’t let little children use the Internet without supervision because, when they grow older, they will have enough time to surf the Internet alone.

Parents should keep an eye on their children when they use Facebook.

Social sites are a very dangerous phenomenon if you don’t know how to use them or if you aren’t aware of the problems that can arise.

I think parents should keep an eye on their children when they are using Facebook until a certain age, until they are old enough to know how to use these websites as well as knowing how they have to be careful with what they write and talk about on their blogs. A child could innocently tell somebody that they are going on holiday and someone might burgle their house while they are away. Also a child could easily start talking to someone who tells them lies for example about their age, appearance or profession and might ask to meet them which could be very dangerous.

I believe it would help if children had talks at schools to make them aware of the dangers and to tell them how careful they should be when using these websites, as children don’t always listen to their parents.

Parents should keep an eye on their children when they use Facebook

Nowadays, many of us participate in social networks such asTwitter, Tuenti, among others.
At first, the requirement to join was to have a certain age, but kids ignore this rule and, to get on the site, they lie about their age.

On the one hand, these social networking sites are good ways to meet people; make, sometimes, “real” friendships. In fact, these are good ways to communicate with others much better. Also, you can be in contact with anyone you want. What’s more, you can upload photos, videos or links on your interests.

On the other hand, if you are an adult you can control the situations but if you aren’t an adult and you don’t have the supervision of another adult, you are on risk. Due to the fact that these networks are used all over the world, parents believe that their children are safe. Surely, if their parents were aware of some things, they would keep an eye on their children when they use Facebook.

In conclusion, another issue to talk about is the lack of privacy of these networks. People must be aware of that these pages are working to convince lots of people to sign up. However, “this not only leaves the child open to identity theft with facial recognition software but also too many other hidden aspects we often overlook”.

Parents must be attentive to their children if they don’t want to put their children’s lives in danger

Parents should keep an eye on their children when they use Facebook

Nowadays, almost everybody has got facebook, twitter or any social network where they upload photos of them, their friends, their lives, etc. What all these affiliated people (especially children) don't know is how harmful or dangerous it can be.

First of all, children, most of the times, don't think about their future lives or worry about what's correct to do and what is not. They only want to be popular, and that means all their acquaintances have to have a good opinion about them and think they are cool. Sometimes, things children put on facebook about them can be used by criminals if they don't have any privacy. Children had better be aware of all this, consequently, they need help to know what's safe and what's not.

In my view, parents, as they are responsible of their sons and daughters until they are eighteen, ought to help them to know what's wrong to do on line so as to protect them, as they do every day in real life.

To sum up, as long as parents are conscious of the risks Internet has and take part in their children's security, all of them will be safe.
