MUSIC PIRACY

Piracy is the unauthorized use or reproduction of another person's work. This practice has increased since everybody can download music easily from the Internet and, what's more, it's allowed by the government.

On the pne hand, in Spain buying CDs is very expensive. Furthermore, it might happen that you like 10 songs out of 14, but you are paying for all the songs. The advantages of downloading music from the Internet are that you can choose which songs you want to have and even the lyrics, and the best thing is that you can get all of these for free. On the other hand, when you download music instead of buying CDs what you are doing is cheating on composers and singers. And, what's more, they have been working hard so as to create something important that can make us feel better, imagine, smile...

In my opinion, music piracy is wrong because singers deserve to earn money for the job that they have made. It's true that since we download music from the Internet, more singers and groups have been discovered. I think that piracy is very difficult to forbid, but what singers can do is give more concerts or make CDs cheaper.

PIRACY

There is a controversy about whether piracy is ethical or unethical. It’s a fact that free downloads from the Internet are damaging the music industry (and more industries) and sales are falling seriously.

In my opinion, piracy is not wrong at all, because it’s been caused by a rise in prices and a devaluation of the music quality (a massive emergence of “new stars”). Moreover, downloads are a good way to become famous and, afterwards, earn money with concerts and other events. Nowadays, CD sales are not as important as they were in the past; it’s more important to be relevant on social networks and on media’s conferences. Actually, piracy isn’t harming the music industry at all, it’s a good way for a whole lot of groups to become known and it’s making national music expand throughout the world. What’s more, if people are able to have access to piracy it is because music industry and other industries related to piracy are not as affected as they seem to be. In fact, there are many bands that are showing their songs in the net in order to get a lot of visits and obtain popularity (people who go to their concerts, one of the most important sources of money).

To sum up, piracy can seem a great damage to music industry; but, in the new globalized world, it can be a helpful tool to be successful.

PIRACY: BENEFICIAL OR A PROBLEM?

Piracy is something common in our country, almost everybody has downloaded music or films from the internet, it's not considered a crime, more or less. Anyway, is it a beneficial or a problem?

Most people don't mind downloading all sort of files from the internet illegally, neither do I. I think it's something good in some ways, we're sharing information, data, culture, knowledge... and for free! Anybody with a computer and internet connection (which isn't cheap, actually) can access to these data, there are no differences between people. We're in a difficult situation now, some of us cannot afford certain things.

Piracy has damaged a lot both cinematographic and music industries. But these companies have made some progress in order to be competitive and survive. The price of DVDs has decreased a lot, years ago a new DVD could cost about 60€ or 70€. Now you can have a brand new Blu-Ray (with a higher quality of image) for half the price. Then 3D cinemas have appeared and spread, they aren't very good nowadays, but they are supposed to improve soon. Some internet stores offer to download music for a low price but in a good quality (1€ each song, more or less).

Piracy has given us a great benefits, we've got access to music, films and software easily and for free. And companies have tried to improve giving us new services and decreasing prices. Piracy has hurt the industry, but it also has stimulated it in some ways.

PIRACY

Piracy is downloading an illegal copy of a product (music, films, software, etc.) from the Internet. It has increased a lot during the last years because it's easy and free, and everyone can do it.

First of all, from my point of view it's wrong because it causes loads of economic losses to the people who make these products. For instance, if you download a song instead of buying it, you're making the artist or the singer lose money. What's more, you're stealing a product that belongs to him or her without paying anything.
Furthermore, piracy is illegal. It's considered a crime, so if you download something illegally or buy an illegal copy of something you're breaking the law. In my opinion it's unethical.

To sum up, I think that it's much better to buy a product or download it legally instead of doing it illegally, because we must stop piracy. When we download an illegal product, we're damaging its owner.
