Should drugs be legal?

In the past years, there has been much discussion about the legalisation of several drugs such as marihuana or cocaine, but would this legalisation be a good idea?

On the one hand, the legalisation of these substances may stop the illegal trafficking held by black-market smugglers. Moreover, if the government controls the drug trade, the real substances that these products have will be known by everyone, preventing fraud and possible health problems caused by strange compounds some smugglers use to spend less money.

On the other hand, if drugs become legal, there is the possibility that more people or, even worst, youngsters may get addicted to them, making the drug consumption increase and become a social-accepted habit in the same way as it has happened with tobacco and alcohol in Spain.

Taking into consideration all the arguments given above, we think that the legalisation of these kind of substances would be beneficial if it was complemented with a raising awareness of the danger they cause to people.
