What's better: sharing a flat or live in a residence?

Nowadays, most of the people who go to study far from home have to share a flat or live in a residence hall. Many first-year students want to live in a residence, but in my opinion living in an apartment has more advantages.

Firstly, it seems to me that when you share a flat you get along with different people. That means you should learn to be respectful and tolerant with all the members of your apartment. Furthermore, as now you are going to be an independent person, you will take more responsibility for your actions.

Secondly, it’s clear that if you live in a residence hall it will be less economical than in a flat, because you can’t share the expenses with other people. What is more, your timetable will be more severe since each residence has its own rules. As a consequence, you will have less freedom.

In conclusion, I strongly believe renting an apartment will make you grow as a person in spite of the work that it takes you. For this reason, it won’t be easy. In addition, I think that it’s the best way to have more privacy.
